Beyond Symmetry: Challenges in Irregular Architectural Marvels

After an exciting year with multiple events, EERI-BC is planning to close the year with a special evening session, taking place along with its 2023 Annual General Meeting.

This year's AGM is going to be a compelling and enlightening event, featuring distinguished talks and valuable discussions addressing the recent “Challenges in Irregular Architectural Marvels." The speakers will share valuable insights and perspectives on recent seismic demands as well as navigating risk considerations and challenges in the design and construction of architecturally complex structures.

EERI-BC is aiming to enhance and expand its collaborations with UBC student groups as well as other societies and industrial organizations. As a first step, both EERI UBC Student Chapter and the UBC Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition team have joined us in organizing this year's EERI-BC AGM event; a collective effort by EERI representatives in BC.

EERI-BC is hoping to work on building a stronger platform for future collaborations with many more joint events to follow.

Our 2023 AGM event includes:

• Presentation by EERI-BC, including the president's address, updates from executive board members and open discussions
• Unusual Irregular Buildings and Other Failings of the Building Code
  Talk by Prof. Perry Adebar
  
• Sedimentary Basin Amplification in Ground Motion Shaking during Subduction Earthquakes in Metro Vancouver
  Talk by Preetish Kakoty
  
• Presentation by the UBC Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition Team
